A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE NORTHERNER
The care it deserves.
The future it can be.
The Northerner is under new ownership and new management, with a shared purpose: to make a positive difference for our residents and the Kaitaia community. This much-loved place is long overdue for reinvention. We believe it deserves the care, investment and commitment to bring it back to life.
We’ve started a six-month, ten-stage refurbishment of the whole building and every room. Stage 1 is complete, and the next stages are underway. From renewed rooms to new kitchens and living spaces, we’re building a more comfortable place to call home.
Healthier homes, stage by stage.
Stage 1 rooms are Healthy Homes certified. Improvements and certification are continuing through the remaining stages. Our team can confirm the certification status and shared facilities for the room you’re considering.
Applications remain open while this work progresses. Talk with our team about upcoming rooms and what to expect during your stay.
Refurbishments are underway; current appearance may vary.

We count visits to this home page and the initial application page to understand when people visit and which websites send them here. When a recognised advert label is included in the link, we also count which advert brought that visit. This uses a random identifier in your browser tab, not advertising cookies. We estimate active time on these two pages while the tab is visible and focused, pausing after one minute without activity and limiting each page view to 30 minutes of recorded time. We do not record your form answers, name, email, private application links or full referring web addresses in these statistics. Counting identifiers expire after 48 hours. Traffic reports cover up to 90 days; expired records are cleared when website statistics are next recorded or viewed. We respect browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.
